on the mount
Oh, I just realized, Mount Sinai is Jewish!!

It’s a sunny day here in New York. The vendors are hopping on the streets, the smell of roasting nuts and flowers permeating the air. Another Monday.
Brian is doing well, in the in the middle of therapy sessions. In his words:
“Sat up by myself, and could put my legs out in front of me. During therapy today they helped me with a hook around my arms so that I can pull myself up and balance alone. I can stay there all day probably it’s pretty easy. I was so happy that I could actually sit there by myself”
Both agree that the people are nice
“I like the nurses; they are nice.
“I am VERY pregnant.” Today Emily feels it, really feels it. Last night was a hard night as the nerve in her back was pinched and caused a lot of pain. “I feel it all the way down to my toes, a lot of pain” - a hard position to be in at this point.
Emily has now become the official person in charge of suctioning out Brian’s trache. She is the head of respitory therapy in this department as of today. This means she uses a vacuum like machine every few hours to get the fluid out of his lungs. The trick is getting the nurses trained in the procedure so that they can do it when Emily is gone.
We called an OB/GYN today, trying to get appointments. It seems as though it might be a bit tricky getting one here at an 8 month pregnancy. Rebecca (the pediatric resident) is on her way back from Nantucket and hopefully will be able to help with some contacts when she gets here.
Cell phone, has arrived- YEA!
Daily Schedule:
10-11 Physical therapy- basically teaching Brian how to get up on own to chair by himself.
11-12 occupational therapy-teach how to live independently, brush teeth, daily tasks.
2:30- 3:30 upper extremity group therapy session.
Need:
Headset for phone to talk. Trying to use a hook on the phone, but Brian’s wrists need to be strengthened to get mobility and to be able to hold the phone.
I think wedding photos, pictures for the room would be nice.

Dear Emily and Brian, (and Katie--Katie who I am fairly sure wrote most of the posts so far)
Hello from Wheaton, Illinois. We are pulling for you and praying for you and looking forward to hearing of your progress as the days unfold! God is with you.
Now, some business--this probably is addressed to mostly to Katie, but I'm sure other friends would agree. I have two suggestions for you. First. change this blog so that anonymous comments CAN be made, and then ask people to just put their names in the text of what they write. A few anonymous comments won't hurt anything if people forget to sign their names. The way it is now, it is VERY confusing for people to have to actually create a blog themselves, in order to send you a greeting, which is how it's presently set up. Most of us do not want a blog of our own! Then they have to remember their user name and password (I have already forgotten mine) and it's just a hassle. No wonder Noreen and Marianne had difficulties! Katie, both your blog and Marsha's both allow anonymous comments, which is way easier and less intimidating. To protect against spam if you think it's necessary, you can turn on the letter recognition control.
Secondly, since the blog will automatically say "Posted by Brian and Emily Keddy" at the bottom of each post, regardless of who actually is writing, whoever writes the log on a particular day should start your postings by identifying yourself right up front. It might be Katie again, or Emily, or Brian and Emily together, or Brian dictating--make it clear who is speaking and we will all find it easier to engage with it. Other than that, this is a great idea--a good way to communicate with a lot of people who love you all without having to do emails. And the pictures are GREAT.
Love, Carol

Happy Birthday Brian! Love You.
Dear Brian & Emily,
You do not know me, but Jan King and I are best of friends. My brother was in a bike accident at the same time you were. My prayers have been with you right from the beginning. It is so nice to be able to put a "face" to the name. Keep the faith. All these prayers will work miracles.
